I was also given a single whole tomato as my "snack" to go with the tomato roll! I gave this back and went without lunch as nothing else was offered. It took the restaurant just under 1 hour (and around 6 reminders from me to catering staff, that I hadn't eaten) to come up with a lunch of a dry roll with 2 soggy slices of tomato and a bit of lettuce for my lunch one day of the conference. The staff in the hotel is another issue.I don't think I have even encountered such rude, unhelpful staff in any hotel, never mind one which is meant to be 4 star!! I don't eat meat or dairy and this appeared to be a massive problem (although I've previously had amazing food with no problem, throughout Germany). However it was still very dated (apart from shower room) and had the same odd stale smell. The room was much bigger, had two single beds and was not quite as worn out. I moved room, as intended the following day. I didn't complain as the hotel was full and I knew I was moving room the next day, however for £160 (room only) per night for a single room (with a single bed.), it was a a disgrace. The first room was very small, dated, tired (holes worn in armrest of armchair in room) and had an odd smell (similar to wet dog). The first night I had a single room (this was all that was available when booking) and then moved to what was meant to be a Superior double room for the remainder of my stay. I stayed in the Maitim Koln for 5 nights in June to attend an international conference.
